ABSTRACT

Conclusion:

Ocular surface reconstruction with human amnion membrane is thought to be an alternative treatment modality in corneal ulcers refractory to medical treatment.

Results:

In our study average age was 60.75 ± 7.1 years (range 48-72). The best corrected visual acuity was increased one line in Snellen chart at fifteen patients (% 75) but in five patients (% 5) there was no difference. The average of healing time was between 4 and 6 weeks. No infection and recurrence was observed.

Material-Method:

A total of 20 eyes who were performed amnion membrane transplantation in our clinics between March 2005 and December 2008. Resolved in room temperature and three times saline washed amnion membran was covered all over the cornea independent of the position and size of the lesion and was sutured on the peripheral cornea circumferentially by 10/0 monofilament sutur. At the end of the operation, therapeutic contact lens was placed. The cases included in the study were evaluated with respect to duration of surface epithelial healing, visual acuity, presence of recurrence and infection.
