ABSTRACT
Conclusion:
Although there are some problems such as anterior chamber and capsule fluctuations in phacoemulsification surgery after PPV and more frequent postoperative transient complications in combined phacoemulsification and PPV surgery, the results of both groups were reasonably satisfactory.
Results:
Intraoperative findings were acute anterior chamber and pupil alteration in 26 cases (63.41%), increased posterior capsule mobility and flaccidity in 13 cases (31.70%) and zonular dialysis in 3 cases (7.31%) in the first group. Acute fluctuations in the anterior chamber depth occured only in one case (3.84%) which had myopia and retinal detachment in the second group. Postoperatively, except intensive pigment reaction in 5 cases (12.19%), no problem was observed in group 1, whereas anterior chamber reaction in 20 eyes (76.92%), transient hyphema in one eye and intensive fibrinous exudation in 2 eyes were found in group 2. Best corrected visual acuities improved in 25 (60.97%), no change was observed in 12 and decreased in 4 cases of group 1; improved in 19 (73.04%), was the same in 4 and decreased in 3 cases of group 2.
Methods:
Forty-one eyes undergoing phacoemulsification after PPV (group 1) and 26 eyes combined phacoemulsification and PPV (group 2) were included to our study. Indications of vitrectomy, preoperative and postoperative best corrected visual acuities (BCVA) and intraoperative and postoperative problems were evaluated.
Purpose:
To investigate the results and complications of phacoemulsification surgery after or combining with pars plana vitrectomy (PPV)
