ABSTRACT

Conclusion:

Bilateral involvement was the most common in cases diagnosed as angioid streaks. CNVM developing in macula was the most serious cause of visual loss. Successful results with phodynamic therapy were achieved in 2 cases with developing CNVM.

Results:

3 women (30%) and 7 men (70%) were available for follow up evaluation. The average age of patients was 48.6 years (32-73 years). Mean follow up period of cases was 2.47 years (20-39 months). Eighteen eyes of 10 patients were involved. Two patients had unilateral, and 8 patients had bilateral involvement. Choroidal neovascular membrane (CNVM) was determined in 5 eyes (31.25%) on fluorescein angiography. The hyperflouorescence over the streaks without CNVM were determined in another eyes. Macular involvement was established in 10 eyes (62.5%). At the onset of the follow up, photodynamic therapy was performed for 2 eyes (12.5%) with developing CNVM.

Material and Method:

From 2004 to the 2006, 10 patients with Angioid Streaks in SB Ankara Ulucanlar Eye Education and Research Hospital Retina Clinic were involved in this study retrospectively. A complete ophthalmological examination including visual acuity, applanation tonometry, biomicroscobic examination findings, dilated examination of the posterior segment, and fluorescein angiography was evaluated in first examination and follow-up period.

Purpose:

To investigate the gender, age, follow-up time, and accompanying eye examination findings of cases that were diagnosed as Angioid Streaks.
