ABSTRACT

Conclusion:

We conclude that frontal suspension surgery with autogenous fascia latamight be the first choice in patients over 3 years. In selected cases with tendency towards exposure keratopathy and / or patients younger than 3 years old silicone rod might be more appropriate.

Results:

Autogenous fascia lata group yielded 91.3% satisfactory results. The recurrence of ptosis was not encountered with this materials. Silicone rod group had 62.9% satisfactory results and 37.1% recurrence of ptosis. The recurrence was observed in a mean period of 4.2 months. When compared for satisfactory results, there was a statistically significant difference between the two goups (P=0.003 < 0.05).

Material-Methods:

Between 1999 and 2007, we performed frontalis suspension surgeryon the 65 eyes of 51 patients, ages between 9 months and 74 years. The material used for frontalis suspension was autogenous fascia lata in 38 eyes of 30 patients (age range 3 to 56 years:mean 19.8 years), silicone rod in 27 eyes of 21 patients (age range 9 months to 74 years: mean 14.2 years) Follow up time was between 10 and 54 months for autogenous fascia lata. Followtime was between 23 and 78 months for silicone rod. The results of two groups were compared statistically.

Objective:

To compare the results of frontalis suspension surgery using autogenous fascialata and silicone rod.

Keywords:
Frontalis suspension, ptosis, autogenous fascia lata, silicone rod
