ABSTRACT
Discussion:
Having high success and low complication rates limbal conjunctival autograft is an effective method in the treatment of both primary pterygia and recurrent pterygia.
Results:
No statistically significant differences were found between two groups in age, gender and duration of follow-up. Two recurrences (6,7%) were observed in primary pterygia group whereas no recurrence was observed in recurrent pterygia group. No other complications were observed. The difference of efficacy of limbal conjunctival autograft between both groups was statistically not significant (p>0,05).
Material and Methods:
Thirty eyes with primary and 35 eyes with recurrent pterygia were included in this study. Mean age was 56,30 ± 16,06 years, and mean follow-up time was 16,16 ± 3,30 months in the primary pterygia group. 15 patients (50%) were female and 15 of them (50%) were male. In recurrent pterygia group mean age was 55,54 ± 13,87 years and the mean follow-up time was 16,80 ± 3,06 months. 23 of these patients (65,7%) were female and 12 of them (34,3%) were male. Both groups were compared for recurrence of pterygia and complications.
Purpose:
The efficacy of limbal conjunctival autograft transplantation for primary and for recurrent pterygia were compared.
